FORUM: TALK FOR OUR LIVES, PREVENTING GUN VIOLENCE

A panel of speakers will provide current information on many of the avenues available to the public for reducing gun violence in Colorado and the U.S. This will be a non-partisan event that provides education on the occurrence of gun violence including accidental, assaultive, suicidal, and homicidal shootings, and current laws and policies preventing gun violence.

A panel of speakers will present followed by a question and answer period. The distinguished panel of speakers are:

  • Patricia O’Brien, Pueblo Human Relations Commission member and adjunct instructor in social work discussing national gun violence statistics and points of intervention;
  • Colorado State Senator Rhonda Fields, Senate District 29,  Member Senate Judiciary Committee and Co-Sponsor, Crime Victim Rights Caucus giving an overview of current gun laws and policies in CO;
  • Andrew Romanoff, President and CEO, Mental Health Colorado presenting on advocacy for an extreme risk protection order and increased protection/treatment for violent individuals and mental health treatment;
  • Rita Marquez, “Moms Demand Action”, speaking about “common sense”  advocacy for the prevention of gun violence.

An Open Forum for questions will follow the speaker presentations and refreshments will be served.
