NAMI JeffCo Education Night (Emotional/Behavioral Dysregulation)

February 5, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Dysregulation is a term used in the mental health community to refer to an emotional response that is poorly modulated, and does not fall within the conventionally accepted range of emotive response. Sometimes we talk about this as mood swings.

Possible manifestations of emotional dysregulation include angry outbursts or behavior outbursts such as destroying or throwing objects, aggression towards self or others. Emotional dysregulation can lead to behavioral problems and can interfere with a person’s social interactions and relationships at home, in school, or at a place of employment.

This presentation will focus on sources of dysregulation, functions of aggressive behavior, and strategies on preventing and managing aggression. Aspects of caregiver resilience will also be considered.

Our presenter is Brian Tallant, a licensed professional counselor for 25 years and Program Director for the Intercept Center at Aurora Mental Health Center. The Intercept Center works collaboratively with Aurora Public Schools and manages day treatment and mental health services for children with a dual diagnosis and their families.
