Scott is a credentialed Colorado Peer and Family Specialist as well as a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAC II) currently working as a Peer Recovery Navigator for a non-profit, multi-faceted substance use treatment organization in southern Colorado. Scott is in long-term recovery, which he attained after receiving intensive inpatient and outpatient treatment at Peer 1 Therapeutic Community in Denver, Colorado from early 2014 through late 2015. Although clinically credentialed, Scott chooses to work as a Peer Specialist as it affords him the opportunity to directly share his lived experience with individuals still struggling with SUD and mental health challenges, while also helping them to understand and navigate the treatment and criminal justice system. Scott views his primary responsibility as assisting recoverees to connect to the recovery community at large while assimilating to the treatment options available.  Beyond working with recoverees in one on one settings, Scott facilitates an assortment of open support groups to include SMART Recovery, Circle of Parents as well as Community Reinforcement and Family Training. Scott also teaches a skills group called Strategies for Self-Improvement and Change to recoverees in inpatient settings. Scott serves on the treatment team for the 16th Judicial Integrated Treatment court and is also an instructor for core skills training offered to individuals interested in becoming Recovery Coaches and/or Peer Specialists or, who are working to obtain the Colorado Peer and Family Specialist credential.
