Do you support school policies and funding that increase the availability of mental health services in schools and early childhood settings?
  • Yes: I would like to see us dedicate more resources to mental health services in schools. I will work with the legislature to find ways to help districts hire and retain the mental health professionals we need at schools.
Do you support additional funding for follow-up care for individuals after a suicide attempt or overdose?
  • Yes, but I think one of the main ways to do this follow-up care (and hopefully prevention in the first place) is through a primary care setting. One of the primary goals of my health care platform is to continue improving the integration of mental and physical health and I think this can be instrumental in addressing the elevated rates of suicide we have in Colorado. One area I will focus on is continuing the funding and momentum from the State Innovation Model (SIMs) program that is set to Expire in 2019, so we keep the positive momentum from this program going.
