Mental Health Colorado Joins American Subcontractors Association of Colorado

Mental Health Colorado is excited to announce our new partnership with the American Subcontractors Association of Colorado (ASAC). Together, we can continue to strengthen our shared commitment to workforce well-being, community connection, and healthier minds across Colorado. ASAC represents construction subcontractors across the state through advocacy, education, collaboration, and industry leadership.

The people who build Colorado face unique mental health challenges. Construction workers experience disproportionately high rates of suicide, substance use challenges, stress, and social isolation. At the same time, workforce shortages, retention challenges, and increasing demands on the industry underscore the importance of creating workplaces where people feel supported, connected, and able to thrive.

Infographic illustrating a construction industry mental health statistic. Five person icons appear on the left, with one figure highlighted in solid blue and four outlined figures beside it. A bracket connects the icons to large text on the right that reads: “Construction workers account for 1 in 5 workplace suicide deaths in the U.S., despite making up only about 7% of the workforce.” A source citation at the bottom references CPWR's Construction Suicide Data Bulletin (2023). The graphic uses a blue-and-white color palette and emphasizes the disproportionate impact of suicide on construction workers.

This partnership reflects a growing recognition that mental health is a workforce issue, a safety issue, and a community issue.

For more than 70 years, Mental Health Colorado has worked to pass laws, change practices, and build a movement for healthier minds. Through policy advocacy, public education, and community engagement, we work to advance mental well-being across the lifespan for all Coloradans.

ASAC has likewise demonstrated a strong commitment to workforce well-being through initiatives focused on mental health, suicide prevention, recovery-friendly workplaces, and industry education. Recent programs have included suicide awareness training, health and safety programming, and conversations about supporting workers and families across the construction industry.

Together, Mental Health Colorado and ASAC will explore opportunities to:

  • Advance awareness of mental health challenges facing Colorado’s construction workforce.
  • Promote resources that support workers, employers, and families.
  • Strengthen workplace cultures built on connection, belonging, and well-being.
  • Foster collaboration between mental health leaders and construction industry leaders.
  • Support healthier communities across the places we live, work, and build.

The top section features the ASAC Colorado logo and the text “New ASAC Member.” The center section displays the Mental Health Colorado logo alongside photos of diverse construction workers. Text reads: “Working to pass laws, change practices, & build a movement for healthier minds.” Icons highlight three focus areas: Workforce Well-Being, Strong Communities, and Mental Health Support. The graphic concludes with the message: “Together, we're advancing healthier minds across places we live, work, and build.” The design uses blue, orange, and white branding elements.

Strong communities are built by healthy people. By bringing together expertise in mental health and construction, this partnership creates new opportunities to support Colorado workers both on and off the job site.

We are grateful to ASAC for their leadership and look forward to working together to help ensure that everyone who helps build Colorado has access to the support, connection, and resources they need to thrive.
