Not sad. But blue as in color. Blue as in cops. Blue as in all law enforcement.
Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Health Solutions, 41 Montebello Road, you can support law enforcement officers by buying blue light bulbs for your porches, and strips of blue tape to put on your car.
The blue lights will be a beacon for law enforcement officers who, while on patrol, will see a household that supports them. The strip of tape will form a thin blue line on the back of vehicles, which likewise will buoy the spirits of our community’s officers. Read more...
Election 2016: Mental health forums to provide candidates a chance to discuss health care needs
How do we make sure that all Coloradans get the mental health care they need? That’s the question Mental Health Colorado hopes to answer through a series of candidate forums on mental health aimed to inform just in time for the 2016 election.
The nonprofit will hold four events, including a forum Sept. 22 in Aurora. Other forums are scheduled for Sept. 20 in Jefferson, Sept. 27 in Denver and Sept. 29 in Colorado Springs. Read more...
Law enforcement appreciation day set for Saturday; event inspired by negative climate surrounding police
Betty Nufer has been well aware of the negative perception some have had of cops recently and felt the urge to do something about it to show that there are plenty of people in the community who back law enforcement.
So she has.
Nufer, a regional program coordinator for Mental Health Colorado, recently sent out emails about an idea for an event to support law enforcement to numerous nonprofits and different organizations in town.

Mental health forum here draws a crowd
The Grand Valley needs more licensed providers to help patients seeking mental health treatment. There’s also a need for more providers who accept Medicaid and Medicare and a need for reduced wait times before patients are able to meet with providers.

Making gains on the mental health front
Two advocacy groups are highlighting the lack of mental and behavioral services in the state — especially in rural Colorado.
The issue is well understood among public health officials and mental health providers, but not so much among the general public, even though the impacts of this shortage are painfully obvious.
Mesa County, for example, faces a suicide rate that is consistently higher than the rest of the state and nearly triple the national rate. Statewide, the rate of fatal drug overdoses is well above the national average. Same with alcoholism and alcohol-related deaths. Read more...
